Vintage Photographer
My vintage photoshoot sessions are easy and fun! I use a mix of modern equipment, vintage lighting techniques, and old school practical effects to create my portraits. I have a relaxed and natural style and meeting new people is one of the most enjoyable parts of my job. This means you don’t have to be experienced in front of the camera. I will guide you every step of the way to find the best possible lighting and poses for you in your chosen style.

Your vintage photoshoot
Your vintage photography session begins with with a short pre-shoot email consultation to find out a little bit about you, which styles you prefer and the look and feel of the shoot that you want to create. I will share some “mood boards” on Pinterest to provide some inspiration and you can choose styles like Hollywood Glamour, Hedonistic Gatsby, Sensual Burlesque or the Gritty Midnight world of Film Noir.
I can advise on locations, props, costume and make up to suit you and your shoot. I offer studio style or location sessions and an outdoor shoot can work particularly well for the Film Noir style.
I like to work in a relaxed and informal way. Once you arrive and before your session begins we’ll take a few minutes to have a cup of tea, or even a glass of bubbles, and have a chat about the session and how everything will work.
I am a vintage dance addict, and like to carefully select some background music for each shoot to help keep things relaxed and to set the vintage mood.
To make sure we get the most out of the shoot each package includes a minimum shooting time, but I like to avoid time pressure – if it takes a few minutes more to get the shot then let’s do it! For some shoots, I may have an assistant to make sure that you are looked after and everything runs smoothly. I am also happy to work with stylists or make up artists if you would like one.
Clothes, make-up and props
One of the beauties of this genre of photography is that it works with a simple outfit and a single light, or with more complicated costumes props and set ups. With the atmospheric lighting and simple accessories or props, you can create a wonderfully evocative effect very easily. Outfits can be transformed with the right accessories. Vintage style hats, scarfs, gloves, ties, seamed stockings or tights, veils or fascinators can all help create the style of that golden era.
If you wear make up I can advise on what would be most flattering to suit the vintage lighting set ups. I can also some recommend some tutorials or make up artists.
Creating more elaborate settings is also enormous fun and I love planning and researching different costumes set ups and props. I’m a bit of an ebay addict and love to explore new and different ideas. My collection of props and accessories includes a vintage phone, camera, and even a 1930s typewriter!
